Default Engraved Lid on Rosewood Box

Hi all, I've had this idea in the back of my mind for a couple of months now, and finally got around to doing something about it. I happened to come by a very old pantograph engraver about 40 years old, cost me a carton of beer. Fortunately I had used one of these many a times years ago, when we first kicked off a trophy business in our last town back in the mid 1980s. My mate had a pantograph engraver and I borrowed it a lot until I bought myself a nice new computer engraver, wish I still had it. But we sold our sideline trophy and engraving business to the local toy/sports shop.

Anyway,......I had to come up with some templates of fancy letters, the ratio of this old pantograph engraver is anywhere from 1:2 to 1:7. Hence if I have a template letter say 100mm in height, the highest I can engrave it is 50mm, and so forth.

I then also organised a set of fancy borders, but the one shown in the main photos was just to intricate, so I made up another two sets myself, much more simpler and nice looking.

So the box in the photos will become my wife's, her initial is R. Then I have a set of every other letter in the alphabet, I've put up B and H here with my two other borders, for samples.

I find that the rosewood engraves beautiful, its a very non grainy timber and cuts easy.

    Paul

    Hi,
The engraving adds a classy touch to a beautiful box.

A handsome box. You should have some fun with the pantograph.
I like the way the initial personalises the box.
And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.
