engraving and gold embossing? Who can do?
Gday all,
I've been asked about making 30 presentation boxes for the Matildas World Cup Squad by Nike.
Pretty amazing.
There is a requirement of embossing, but on close examination, it appears to be both laser etched and embossed. Previous box samples attached.
Does anyone know how this was done? Who can do it?
I'm probably investing in a Trotec 300 Laser (yay!) but while is can zap like the Terminator, it wont do gold....
Any ideas?

Hi, the gold leaf would be applied afterwards I suspect,it is not incredibly difficult if you have the gold leaf and tools.
A picture frame restorer or bookbinder/restorer would probably be able to do it.

You could have a chat to these guys. They do laser and CNC engraving, but not sure about your gold.

I've found in my short wood career, that getting the business is a vastly different proposition to doing the commision!
Getting is the EASY part!
Today I only turned 6 pissy stand-offs for a shaving rack in vic ash.... took me all afternoon with the interruptions!

I suggest you do an internet search to find a business that will do "hot foil stamping on wood". There are a few around.

to me the "engraving" looks like it is stamped with a steel die and then the gold leaf applied
the corners look far too crisp for traditional engraving or laser etching
you may want to consider outsourcing the stamping and gold work.regards from Alberta, Canada

I'll outsource it guaranteed! I was hoping it would be simple, but it seems foiling is a fairly rare thing.
Found one and emailed them, so wish me luck....

You could try these people, I use them for engraving, don't know if they do the foil stamping.

Hi Alex
when it comes to presentation boxes and engraving, you're probably the most experienced of all of us
looking at the Australian coat of arms, especially the detail in the wattle blossom, in your experience, is the level of detail and crispness achievable with engraving?regards from Alberta, Canada

Get a block made and do the stamping yourself. Try Goldcraft in Marrickville in Sydney. Blocks are not cheap.

A neighbour of mine does hot foil printing on ribbons. He suggested to contact
Leonhard Kurz Australia at Frenchs Forest in Sydney. The are suppliers of the foil ribbon and might be able to give you a contact for foil stamping on wood.
Another contact is Milford Astor at Rosebery in Sydney.

I don't think there's be a problem with that with laser engraving, but don't know about the foil stamping.
I showed the photo to Kopycut and this was the response.
The logo could have been done a few different ways and without actually having a sample in our hands we could not say which way. You can get very good detail with a laser, but depends on a lot of different variables. ie: what scale its at, which is not easy to gauge from a picture.
