Enlarged miniature trinket box
Hi all, Recently I put up pics of that set of miniature trinket boxes that I copied from watching the Gifkin Col show. So using pretty much the same technique as Col used on the small boxes I made a large one. Naturally I didn't use the 1/8th brass rods like in the little ones.
I used 6mm brass tubing and 5mm brass rods for the pivot action. Naturally a couple of minor adjustments to Col's as the timber is 12mm instead of 9mm. But if you get the measurements right, the lids sits open very securely at a nice 95 degrees.
Interesting timber used here, Black Pine (the lighter timber) and Snakewood for the ends. The lid is old offcuts from a Hairy Oak Slab.
I've just sliced up all my remaining Black Pine and Snakewood to make another 8 of these same boxes. I didn't even know I had this Black Pine till going through my stock pile looking for something and found a couple of big lengths of it a mate from Lithgow gave me about 10 years ago.
I'm in the "getting rid of stuff" mode. Been selling a lot of things I don't want or use anymore. All my pen making stuff, chisels etc, gone plus various other things.

Very nice combination Paul. Until recently I thought Pine was Pine but I was given some Red Pine and now you're showing Black Pine. How many others are there besides Huon and King Billy?
Interesting how our passions change as time goes on. What was fun and interesting at one time becomes outdated eventually and we are forced to move things on. Make sure you stick with your boxmaking though to keep us all inspired.Dallas
