    Default At Last Finished

Been working on these 6 boxes on and off in between other project for a while now.

They are made from the scrap bin. The two "Ripples in the sand" tops are of beech(appropriate for the name) and the Thick lidded one is Oak. The other three lids again from the scrap bin.

Nice - I especially like the carved tops, they add something to a nice simple design.

G'day Derek, Damn you are on fine craftsman, these are beautiful and from scraps.
They boxes are so neat and clean, well done.
How did you get the "waves" in the tops, they really set them off something special.
    Cheers, crowie

Thank you all for the great comments

Peter the waves or ripples as I call them are done with a carving chisel and then sanded making sure that none of the grits are missed as most of the sanding is done across the grain.

Fortunately there is no snow down this corner of the UK if you squint you could just about see some very fine snow flakes today but it melted as soon as it hit the ground.

Have not really done a lot over the last week stuck indoors with the flu (nearly gone now thank goodness ) only managing to fit the felt in the boxes the other day

Those are some great looking boxes. Is that gray stain on some of those lids or are my eyes playing tricks on me?

Very nice work. I like the sculptured lids.
And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

Sorry for the lateness in replying to the last three comments, but anyway thank you very much.

No stain just gloss varnish straight onto the wood. Might be my photographic skills or lack of.

They're very beautiful. Did you make them as gifts for people?
