Finishing Kit
I posted shots of my first box some time ago & asked for some advice on finishing. Attached are some shots of the finished box and the kit used. I used shellac sanding sealer to start with - having sanded the box with 200 grit paper beforehand. I then applied several coats of button polish (which I believe is another form of shellac? - does anybody know?) using a rubber (cotton wool wrapped in cotton cloth) to apply each coat. I tested the polish on a piece of waste in case it was too dark & might cover the grain. Between coats I rubbed the box with 00 grade wire wool. Its not easy to see the smooth finish in the photos - however this simple finish does enhance the grain detail - as can be seen from the other photos

I was very impressed by the richness of colours in my initial consideration. Then, I started to ponder the scope of possible better grain matches.
With hindsight, do you think that some of the grain matches could have been better enhanced?
My perceptions might be wrong, but an exercise that achieved so much seemed to have missed some very possible goals. I do not mean that unkindly, but rather to avoid a like error.CJ
