Fitting concealed barrel hinges
I intend to make a box when my arm eventually decides to gets better and would like to use concealed barrel hinges that I have seen here.
Now a few months ago I got a drawing from somewhere and instructions how to install them, unfortunately I kept the information on the computer and didn't back it up and I lost it when my computer crashed recently.
So I just want to know if there are any little tricks to fitting them or is it easy. Do I need anything special.
If I remember rightly I think the instructions that I had said I had to take the hinge apart or remove a screw or something of that nature. Or am I dreaming.?
I am sure you guys will be able to put me straight.Reality is no background music.
Cheers John

Not sure how it is done properly
But I used a template to locate the holes (a piece of ply with a hole), drilled the holes to depth with a forstner bit, brad points would have also worked fine, using the tape on drill bit method of ensuring right depth.
Removed the tiny grub screws, ensured that the hinges where orientated correctly , then placed hinges in by hand as far as I could into both holes. Then with box in closed postion, using wooden mallet and a waste piece of board tapped them home.
Functioned the lid a few times to help ensure alignment was correct then replaced grub screws.
Must re-iterate that having never seen intructions on how to use them, this was the method that I devised, hopefully someone who has the proper instructions may be able to help.

Cruzi's worked out a good way to do it. The holes in the lid & bottom must be exactly the same distance apart, and the template is probably the best way to do it. You can put a stop on one end of the template to make sure that they are exactly the same distance from the end. Another way is to drill from the top before separating the lid. You can plug the holes later to make them a 'decorative feature'. If you have one, use a drill press, as the holes must be vertical.
The hinges must be exactly at right angles when they open.

Fitting Barrel Hinges
I have found that drilling the holes with the router assisted with a simple template and template guide is best.
The holes are more accurate and there is no chance of the hole being cut wondering off following the soft grain of the timber

My installation techniques are equal in number to the number of times I have used them!
key points;
- the holes must be perfectly aligned, I have drilled through top and into the bottom before the box top is fitted BUT this breaks rule number 2, and the most success I have had is to drill one component (I usually use the 10mm hinge) put the little dowel alignment plugs into the holes, locate the top, tap it gently and the dowel plugs leave a dimple where to drill
- drill the holes to the correct depth, this makes it so much easier to fit and operate
- use a forstner bit as the hinge locks by friction only and the smoother the surface inside the hole, the better the grip
- install the hinge in one half, open the hinge, ensure it opens to 90deg to the hinge line and fix it in place with the grub screw OR the little woodscrew that runs down the outside of it
- close the hinge, fit the other half of the box, open it gently, and fix the other half of the hinge in the box half

Thanks for the tips guys. Does sound a bit complicated but I will practice what you have said here and see how I go.
If anyone has more detailed instructions with some diagrams, would be terrific.Reality is no background music.

I measured in from either end <>marked<> measured in from side, allowed for hinge to open without catching lid on the base (back)<marked>dimple punch cross marks . THEN use a small brad and tap it in 1/8" use side cutters and cut off so there is just a tiny point left. now get lid<>door, line it up and press down firmly, dimple punch then drill to depth and fit, (must be at 90degrees, and correct drill size)
