Received my Jarrah off cuts today.Hopefully my photo comes up.first time I have tried uploading a photo.
Parcel has some sheok in it for me to see.
This parcel weighed over 9kg and was nearly $30.00 from Perth to Geelong 3220. Parcel was wrapped in cardboard then put in a heavy paper post bag..
You would not get much Jarrah in a $9.90 post satchel.
Very happy with wood,David and service.Back To Car Building & All The Sawdust.

Hi Aussie,
It got to you quicker than I thought it would!
I'm glad you are happy with it. I hope you can put it to good use.
I would like to work out a way of getting larger quantities to people in the east at a better rate than Aust post.
Any ideas welcome.

hey david just got the pm, i still interesting in getting some offcuts similar to what AUSSIE go. i dont want to be a burden on you having to organise freight, so how about we'll see if any vic's will put there hand up to go in on freight costs in thise post otherwise im willing to send you a pre-paid tough bag and just go through australia post.

This may help as I work for ozzie post. They do a little known service but it may take a bit of organising. All road freight is packed in what is known as a ULD (Unit Loading Device), a wire cage to everyone else! What they can do is what is known as a "point to point ULD". You would deliver to one of their business centres all the stuff to fill a ULD and it would be packed and consigned to a business centre of your choice within Australia. At the other end someone has to unpack it and take delivery. I will give you an idea of costs, from Sydney to Brisbane was about $150 ish but that is only an indication so don't quote me. These cages are about a metre cubed and the only stipulation is everything must fit within the cage and the weight of the consigment can't be more than 500kg, 600kg gross including ULD. So, if a few guys in one state got together it would work with one or two doing the organisation at either end.
Having said that back freight out of Perth is a rare thing and should be dirt cheap to the East, at least Adelaide. Get some quotes, I think you will be surprised at what you find. The problem as always is finding a way of distribution at the receiving end. If I can be of further help PM me, I wouldn't mind some Jarrah.CHRIS

Mini that sounds like the kind of thing that would be worthwhile for people wanting some Marri and Jarrah in the east.
I drop mail at the Welshpool business centre and I've seen a lot of those ULD cages. As Jarrah can be close to a tonne per cube I think we could get one around half full.
I would only offer to do this if there are people wanting and willing to help arrange at the other end. I think it would take some time to get going but I'm happy to help.

I think the first step would be to get a quote from AP and see what ensues from that. If the timber is the right price then the freight costs may be surmountable. I will get a quote from Perth metro to Sydney metro on Tuesday. If I were to do it the timber would end up in Helensburgh and need to be picked up from there. A more central point may be better. It can be consigned to any business centre that AP have. This may take a bit of organising as for people to put their hands up they would want to be assured of getting an even slice of the pie so to speak. How that part would be organised needs to be seen to.
