Gifkin's Box Cutters
Just curious if any of you use the rebate cutter that Roger sells for adding your bottom and lid panels. Is this slot about right for 1/8 panels? Will it work for dovetails on 3/8 inch stock? Thanks!

Do you mean the slot cutter ?
(I used it in the video)If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

Well it does make a slot but it is not a typical slot cutter. He calls it a 22 mm rebate cutter, used to make the slots all the way around the inside of the box for bottom and top panels. In fact their isn't anything like this in the USA at all that I know of. I like the idea of being able to easily cut the slots on the router table without blowing thru the dovetails or box joints. That is my question will it work on 3/8 inch material as well?

Lee Valley make them in 2 different sizes, but only with a 1/4"(6.35mm) shank. They supply 2 sizes of bearing too, so you can decide how deep you want the groove. I've used them on a few rough boxes and drawers, not dovetailed tho'.

They sure do bsrlee. Thanks. I ordered from Mr. Gifkin before I seen that. Oh well no problem as I needed to get some backer boards and other junk while I was at it! Thanks!

yeah OK, it's the rebate cutter but it's really a modified slot cutter with a bearing.
It cuts a slot 5mm deep and 5mm wide (approx)If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

I picked one of them up from Roger Gumby. Pretty slick little bit!
