Girls Jewelry Box WIP (Paint-Grade)
Heres a box for my 7 year old daughter that im working on. Her birthday is coming up so i need to rush and finish before i carry on with my armoire experiment.
Construction is mostly 1/2" MDF and plywood. It will be painted light pink with chrome hardware and paint highlights.
Heres the carcass assembled.

Scrap wood drawer slides installed and coated with finishing wax for a smooth ride.

Homemade cove moulding installed top and bottom. Changed my mind about the top though so that part has been removed.

Plywood drawers glued and pin nailed. No fancy joints.

Looking good. I quite liked the moulding at the top.
What sort of paint are you spraying with, a can or a gun?

Re: Girls Jewelry Box (Paint-Grade)
Thanks. The only change to the top moulding is that its now part of the lid instead of getting a separate lid on top of the moulding.
Im spraying acrylic with a gravity-feed HVLP. Its my first time using any spray equipment. It was intimidating at first but after doing some research and experimenting with different mixtures i think im close.
Primer went on nice and clean, but my first paint coat has a little orange-peel texture to it.
My mixture was 15% water, 5% or less Floetrol and the rest is paint. I may need a little more floetrol or just more practice )

Re: Girls Jewelry Box (Paint-Grade)
Heres my first paint coat over 1 coat of primer. The pics dont really show the color but its a very subtle pink (Behr Plus Premium 'Powder Blush'). It actually looks pretty decent in person but theres a little bit of texture that i need to get out of it.
Oddly, the primer i used took alot more water to get the same thickness as the paint and they are both behr premium plus. The primer is latex-acrylic, the paint is 100% acrylic. Im not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

Re: Girls Jewelry Box (Paint-Grade)
I dont get to work on these much during the week but i did spray another coat of paint and did the drawer liners. I should probably take a testosterone pill and watch some football after doing this girly stuff... )
They are felt simply glued in with craft glue.

Re: Girls Jewelry Box (Paint-Grade)
Here it is with exterior hardware. The pulls were made by dismantling a bracelet, drilling holes in the back of the hearts and epoxying them to small dowels. I couldnt find anything i liked for less than $6 each so i had to get creative. All thats left is the fuzzy interior carpet and jewelry hooks!
