    Default Glockenspiel carry case.

    Hi

Not very often I get to post a work in this Forum. It is a Glockenspiel case for Opera Australia.

For reference as to the Glockenspiel ~ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glockenspiel

Timber is Australian Red Cedar, the veneer was especially made for this work.

    Very nice Tony.
In woodworking there is no scrap, only firewood.

    Thumbs up carry case

That is unusual and beautiful Red Cedar Tony.nice piece!!
Now, does the Glockenspeil carry the case or does the case carry the Glokenspeil?
Every time I hear or see the word Glokenspeil I am reminded of Danny Kaye.

    Excellent work Tony. Most impressive!

A couple of questions if I may be so bold......

I notice that the carry handle is offset from the centre of the case. This is to do with the weight distribution of the instrument?

Is the whole case veneered with Oz Red Cedar? In which case over what substrate material?

    Thanks. Wayne

    Hardenfast

the weight distribution of the instrument?

    A....... Correct.

Is the whole case veneered with Oz Red Cedar? In which case over what substrate material?

A....... Walls of 12mm Red Cedar, finger jointed. The trick was to match the timber / grain of the veneer to the structure, I think it worked? Sorry can't tell you the name of the substrate material (I can ask the manufacturer if required)?

....... 3mm thick ply used to keep the case weight down.

    AlexS ...... ?

....and "De Liddle Fiddle"... at least he didn't have to make a box for Tubby the Tuba.
