    Default Glue problem

Been using Tightbond wood glue for years. Suddenly it's leaving a blackish/grey stain on the timber. First though it might be the el-chepo brushes I was using to apply it, but that's not the answer.

Anyone else had this problem, or have any ideas why it's happening.

Hey Dan. Make sure the glue hasn't gone off. (use by date). I've been using Titebond 2 glue for years, and the only time I had an issue was that the glue was old. I don't buy in big quantities now, as I reckon the heat in the shed sends it off after 10 months or so.

    DIY Dan,

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago with Tightbond while working with oak. The problem turned out to be iron stains. A brush with a metal collar was left in the glue bottle and started to rust. The dissolved iron caused dark gray to black spots on the wood. The tanic acid in the oak reacted with the iron and caused the stains. Changed out the glue and the problem was solved.

    Hope this helps,
    Bob

    Hi Dan,
I have found it an issue particularly with Blackwood.
Out of interest I have been using Gorilla Glue for a year and just recently purchased a bottle of Titebond 3 (Carbatec dropped the price to $15), it appears to have changed formula. It is thicker than I remember.
    regards
