Hi Denque and others,
Based on Denque's ratio, here is a simple excel spreadsheet to work out your box sizes. As long as you have excel on your computer, click on it, to open it up. Then all you have to do is enter the box length in Cell A1. Then the measurements under that will all change accordingly.
Enjoy,
Paul

Did some
I did some more research on this....
The ark of the covenant dimensions....
The Ark of the Covenant
It would appear that even God knew - that boxes made EXACTLY to Golden mean ratio - don't look right.
Inside the Most Holy Place was the magnificent Ark of the Covenant. Its measurements were 2.5 cubits (3.75 feet) long, 1.5 cubits (2.25 feet) wide and high. It consisted of a rectangular chest made of acacia wood and overlaid with gold.
Length 3.75 feet = 45 inches
Width 2.25 feet = 27 inches
Height 2.25 feet = 27 inches
So height is actually 2 times "the golden mean ratio" (.62 dimension) for boxes (i.e. matches the width).
So....
With the XL spreadsheet
When you plug in the length of 3 & 3/4 feet = (36 inches + 9 inches) = 45 inches.... the spreadsheet yields a false GM ratio width of 28 inches not 27!.
(Do it on the spread sheet in XL as I just did).
2 and a quarter feet is NOT 28 inches as the spreadsheet suggests - it is 27 inches.
2 feet = 24 inches
&
1/4 of a foot is 3 inches (not 4 inches - thats 1/3rd of a foot).
24 +3 = 27 Inches!.
Thus working from the given length & width (and 2 x height) of the ark of the covenant, the provided XL spreadsheet ratios (rounded down to decimals, doesn't actually give the right golden mean proportion ratio (it's out by 1 full inch).
Thats the problem with using calculators kiddies and NOT real math! (Fractions).
Look at the diagram for GM ratio again.
The ratio is pretty clear - and if you work in inches - the error of the spreadsheet formula given is like wise pretty clear for anyone can do mental math in your head!
Yet,
When you do the spreadsheet in cubits
2.5 cubits yields 1.5 cubits - so the math problem must be in the biblical quote conversion to feet & fractions of feet (2 & 1/4feet) quoted above!.
http://www.conversion-website.com/le...t_to_inch.html
2.5 cubits = 45 Inches.
1.5 cubits = 27 Inches.
Why does the spreadsheet - miscalculate the middle 1.0 ratio? 1.62 : 1.0 : 0.62 ratio, as 28 inches not 27?
Obviously digital rounded ratios to 2 decimal places aren't actually accurate enough for Gods work! (Golden Mean Ratio) - if you want to build a box to the right dimensions.
I said at the start you need to throw away these calculators & actually use the best calculator on earth that God gave you - your own brain!
Nuff said?
Real wood workers can do mental math... and actually understand the golden mean ratio and it's significance.
Don't need no calculator or spreadsheet program.
This is why we beat the Ferengies and their ship cloaking technology doesn't work...(for the Star Trek fans) Capt Kirk could do the mental math required for navigation in a 4 space environment (XYZ & T i.e. including local space-time).
You gotta get up pretty early in the morning...to put anything past me... nyuk nyuk nyuk....
I'm a pretty fart smeller... when it all comes down to it!
Now - what day is it? - and whats my kids names again? (Is it time for my medications again already nurse)?
Why is it the easy stuff that always trips me up?
