    Default Presents for my Groomsmen

I'm getting married (TOMORROW!!) and I made some thank you gifts for the minister and the groomsmen.

See the general woodworking section for full post with other gifts, but here's about the boxes:

2 boxes (reversed lids) made from Silky Oak & Black Walnut. Made mainly with my new little box making kit from Mitre 10 for about $30 - saw, tension strap, cutting angle guides. Finished with teak oil.

    Hope the guys like them.

1: Wine rack - recycled Australian Cedar. Made from old skirting boards from Old Parliament House. Finished with some estapol and orange oil

2 & 3: coasters - Banksia pod. 2 sets of 6 coasters made from a big mother of a Banksia pod. Cut with a compound saw. Stupid me almost lost a finger on the last cut when the bit I was holding on to got too small and was ripped out of my hand. Any ideas on how to do this better? I'd be keen to make another set, but am a bit afraid of losing fingers. Banksias are too tough to cut by hand, and just snap my bandsaw blades (useless mini bandsaw!). Finished with several coats of waterproof estapol as it is something that will be subject to a lot of liquid.

4 & 5: Boxes - Silky Oak & Black Walnut. 2 boxes (reversed lids) made mainly with my new little box making kit from Mitre 10 for about $30 - saw, tension strap, cutting angle guides. Finished with teak oil.

Congratulations and best wishes for tomorrow, I trust the day goes well for you and your good lady.

I am sure the recipients of all your hard work will appreciate and cherish them for many years as the results look great.

I spent my formative years in Beverley Hills and went to the old school that I believe is no longer there.

    Chippy.

    Thumbs up

Congrats Simon on both the wedding and the gifts that are so well made.
