    Default Handles

I understand that it is probably a lot of personal preference but am looking for some wisdom on what handle might look ok, or none at all.

I had also toyed with adding feet but will probably just add a chamfer on the bottom.

I'm personally partial to recesses (ie fingerholds). A bonus is it is very subtle and reduces the "noise" from too much going on.

    Default box feet

I sometimes use these little feet that I bought from Timbecon to lift boxes and turned bowls. Because they are end grain they stain fast, thoroughly and easily so can be colour matched or contrasted with the item.

I believe they are available in several sizes.

I also like the clean lines without a handle, just using finger slots, routered using a half round bit, either in the sides or in the front. I can post one of each to see if you’d like. If push came to shove however I’d say the sides as it keeps the front facing aspect completely clean. There are so many variations on handles, it’s had to pick which one suits best, I have even seen just a small straight dowel put in the face of the lid extruding about 5mm using the same timber as the contrasting colour or lid insert piece as you have done, and it looked very effective.

suggestion would be to use the timber from the lid insert and make mock ups of various patterns using double sided tape to get the feel/look.

    Dan74,

It’s also worth looking in the Library section on this forum, subsection Box Bits. There are two articles there on making box handles (articles 7 and 8): Box Bits

Thanks for the ideas. I went to put some finger slots on the side only to realise that I don’t have a core bit.

So I tried turning a small dowel for the front. Once I added it, I thought that it might be nice for a momento box when I pass, as it would remind my wife of my third nipple.

After trying some different feet though I decided to make the foot smaller and then turn that into a handle by attaching it with some pins and did away with the feet altogether.

I am not completely sold on it though but for the moment it is ok. Now I need to work out how to make photos turn around.

What do you use to take your photos?

I just take photos on the phone and read and reply on the phone.

If it's an iphone I have heard that if you slightly edit the photo in the phone and save it, it will orientate the right way when uploaded. I don't have an iphone so can't prove if that is correct.

That worked, I went back and replaced them. Thanks.

The 3rd nipple version doesn't look too bad so you might as well go with that

Who ever gave you that advice must be a legend, that's exactly what needs to be done.

That is the traditional identifier for a witch. The only solution is burning at the stake.

Well legend, they were your instructions that I remembered you put in a post somewhere in the past. I thought I would pass the info on to see if someone would try it to prove that is all that needs to be done instead of us all standing on our heads to look at photos.
It would be good if the info could be put somewhere for all to see so we could get rid of future sideways and upsidedown photos, but not sure where would be a good spot. Maybe a new sticky in the same place as the instructions for Uploading photos but not inside that one as it would get lost. Do you have some thoughts as it was your advice in the first place?
