Thread: Heart-Shaped QLD Maple+Blackwood Jewellery Box - WIP

This project is temporarily on hold, for a bit longer.
Now that the workbench is half-finished, there's no room to move in the shed, to do anything else.
I'll concentrate on the bench and finish it ASAP, then continue with the box.

Everything in moderation and it all comes together.

G'day Russell. It's (very) slowly getting there.
All being well, I'll be back onto it on Monday, if I can get my workbench finished off over the weekend.
I'm looking forward to finishing this one, it's been a while.

I've been getting a little bit done over the last few days. Not enough to warrant pics yet, but the inside is all finished except a little light sanding. I'll finish that and cut out the top tomorrow.
I'll post some pics in a couple of days when there's a bit more done.

Hello Hermit, I'm joining in the fun of watching this one.

G'day John. Things should progress a little more quickly on this one, now that the workbench is finally finished.
I'll split my time evenly between this box and the Ford Roadster model.

Invited the wife into see your heart shaped box which she liked and said perhaps he could also make a butterfly shaped one.

I really like the idea of a butterfly-shaped box. I hadn't thought of it. Might just be on the cards for the future, I feel.

I got the lid cut out today. I didn't get as far as I'd hoped. I forgot that I hadn't thicknessed and dressed this piece yet, so had to do that first.

I just need to sand it the last bit down to the line, and the same with the bottom, then a little more smoothing inside and I can glue the bottom on.

The inner pencil line on the (underside of the) lid is where I'll route a recess around the perimeter for the lid to sit into the lip of the box.

The lid looks thick, but that's because I'll round it at the top, tapering off toward the edges, so it will appear thinner when done.

I've had to wait until the Dremel was free - it was set up for making my model tyres, but they're out of the way now, so I've got everything set up to route the underside of the lid tomorrow. (Would have already been done, but I fell asleep on the couch for 3 hours.)
