You know, I have to agree with you all 100%. Thanks, guys, for pointing it out and no, John, you certainly didn't offend me.
As soon as I finished that first foot, I got the same impression. That's why I edited and said that I might make it thinner and shorter.
I will make the feet thinner and shorter - 100% thinner and 100% shorter.
Really, I was only adding them because they were in my original drawing, which looked OK to me back then. (Just mindlessly following the plan to the end.): -

I really appreciate this type of feedback, so thanks again fellas.
I have stick-on rubber feet somewhere, but I'm not sure I like them for this type of thing - they come off over time. Instead, I might make small, 4-5mm tall wooden feet, to go under the box out of the way. I could put felt on the bottom of them.... Steve

Nice to hear that our views were understood.
How about tripod feet, very short and variegated.woody U.K.

I'm thinking of 3 small discs about 4mm tall, under the box about 5mm in from each 'corner'.
Just enough to raise the box off the surface of whatever it's sitting on.
I especially like 3 feet on things, as in the tripod you suggest, too, because they never wobble regardless of the surface.... Steve

So, now my thoughts stray to the knob, since it's also Blackwood and would have only matched the feet. It probably should go West too.
I can't tell any more. Thoughts, anyone? : -
(One way or another I have to finish this box today.)... Steve

I would keep the knob exactly as is.

The new feet are done and the knob's on. (Getting the dowel hole square into the knob was fun. Had to make a balsa jig/clamp.)
I'm working on the lining templates at the moment. When they fit properly, I'll trace them onto 2mm Basswood ply, then cover it in felt.
Here's the new feet, made from 15mm discs of the Blackwood that was being used for the other feet. I cut them with a 3/4" plug cutter, so they naturally had a nice, very slight taper for feet. They look a little like those chocolates you mentioned, Peter.

I'll post finished pics as soon as the lining's done.... Steve
