Default Need help with an odd shaped box

    Hello,

Brand new to this forum because I'm looking for some help on a project I am working on. I am in the military and I am a hobby knifemaker. I made a Knife that represents the unit I was last in, and would like to complete the display by putting the knife in a wooden display in the shape of a arrow head (glass door so you can see the knife in the box).

I would like any advice as to how to complete this project, whether it is getting someone to help me or doing this myself. Unfortunatly, two things kindof prevent me from doing this myself... 1) I am a knifemaker and have metal working tools as opposed to wood working tools and 2) I am currently overseas in Korea which really makes this hard to do.

To add some more details on this project, this is the unit insignia:
    Attachment 192468

I am also attaching a picture of the knife I made:
    Attachment 192469

Based on the dimensions of the blade, I would need a block of wood in the size of:
    13.5" x 7.25" x 1.5"

I would table saw one half of an inch on the tickness so that I have a 1" piece, and a 1/2"... the 1/2" would be used for the glass door. The idea is to cut the wood in the shape of the unit insignia (arrow head), cut out a space for the knife to fit into on the 1" block, jig saw the shape of the arrow head on the 1/2" piece so that essentially it is just a 3/4" border (glass would go behind this).

I would also possible add maroon felt on the face of the 1" piece so that it has the maroon color like the unit insignia.

Lastely, I considered using african blackwood since that was the wood I used on the handle, however finding a piece that large and working that type of wood may be difficult, so any recommendations as to what wood I should use would be greatly appreicated.

The end state of the project is to replicate the unit insignia in real life using an arrow head shaped box with glass door and a knife that I have already made... The block above the arrow head that says "airborne" will be another project for another day, but will eventally have that as well. The exception to replicating the look, is instead of a red border which is seen on the unit insignia, I am looking for a wooden border, african blackwood if possible.

I would appreciate any ideas anyone has to help me complete this project. Thanks a million.

    -John

Nice knife!! I really like the whole idea. I have more than a passing interest in knives myself so a few closeups would be appreciated.

Timber can be stained relatively easily. What about Pine, or a local Korean timber? From the dregs I know of Korean woodwork black lacquer seems quite common.
