Default Help Please - Box Joint Problems

Box 1.jpgbox 2.jpg Hi All, feel stupid writing this but have been trying to work out what i am doing wrond and just not getting anywhere so i am hopeful that some one may be able to help who is much more experienced than me

I am looking to make a tool chest and am using up some wood to make a test one before purchasing some nice timber, the design i am using calls for box joints - i made a jig - played around and got a decent fit on the test pieces that i used as per the above photos,

I then moved to the bigger pieces (330MM) and no matter how i seem to lay up the mating piece the joint is not lining up, feel like i have done it all ways but just not turing out correctly and i am stumped for the moment so i am hopeful someone can look at the pics below which is where i have left it for tonight and tell me what i am doing wrong

Thanks in advance if you have any suggestions
    Brenton

Not sure what tools you are using or how you have made your jig.

    Here's a video using a table saw

OK this is an easy to make router jig, not sure if it differs from your jig, it's better for me to give videos than try and put things into words

The wider you go the more accurate you need to be both with the jig and how you use it. I was using a friend's jig a while ago and found that we needed to clamp the timber to the jig before doing each cut just to ensure there was no possible movement of the timber as the cuts were being made. We also needed to make the locating peg a neater fit in the notch made by the cutter so the timber was indexed along exactly the right amount for each cut.
Here is a very good explanation of making a jig and how precise you need to be.

I use a home made router jig clamping is the key, also I only do 1 cut with 1 board at a time there is a lot of vibration using a router. I also route from both ends to where the lid joint needs cutting off this gives an even box joint all the way down the wood. A small fine metal file helps if there is any fine adjustment needed. Cheers
