I managed to get some time this week to start cutting out the front portions of the cubes.

I still have to cut the rear sides, and the back pieces. These pics are unfinished....obviously....

No sign of my hinges in the post yet.

Anyone for a giant game of scrabble They look good, it will be scary hollowing out the back, too much and you will expose the letters. Wonder if you could mount a pair of paper grips (dont know what to call them, sort of whats in a clipboard folder) inside a couple of the cubes so they could hide some artwork in there. And secret messages of course!

    Thanks donna.

The Cnc is supposed to make it easy. I started with 1" rough lumber, surfaced to .1 inch, then carved the front to .2 inch, and am hollowing out the rear sides to .5 inch, leaving....at least in theory..... .2 inch thickness behind the letters.....in theory.......in actual fact my cnc machine levelling the wood made one side distinctly less than .9 inches....but we'll see how it goes.

I'm trying to get some felt to put ont he insides.

    Thumbs up

Well I started on the backs the other day when I had some time.

They're coming along fine so far, no plunge through, but I'm a bit worried about the hinges now. I'm not sure if I left enough width on the hinged side to install them. I'll have to wait and see when they arrive, from the pictures on the website they look like it'll be fine.

They are also nice and light with the back hollowed out, so when its finished it should all be fine on mounted the wall.

Hi all. I haven't done any more on this yet, been busy setting up my new toy! (Pic below) Anyway....my hinges arrived in good condition from your side of the world, except I dropped one packet and it opened. I've since noticed that there's only 19 instead of 20 in the packet and don't know if it shipped like this....I'm guessing I missed one picking them up. I've also received some blue felt from e-bay. Looking forward to finishing setting up the planer and getting these done. The hinges look like they should fit ok, thanks again for the link to that site..... ......although they were'nt cheap! Worked out about €2-€3 per hinge!

Anyone own a Scheppach planer? The instructions are without a doubt the worst ever, and I have these two yellow panels (Standing up beside base) left over after assembling the base. I cant figure out where they're supposed to go!

    Hi all,

I made some more progress as time allowed over the past few days. I painted the letters and pics, then went over them with the belt sander. Cut out all 32 box parts on the miter saw, and levelled up each pair all round with the belt sander.

I've also put in the hinges, but don't have a pic of that yet. Turned out quite well. I'm hoping today to get them all joined up, and possibly even the first coat on them.
