Good eye...It was intentional. Look back at an earlier drawing or the sketch where I show the detail. This offset portion is the front face of the lid that will have a slight curve to it. Right now its squared off, but tonight I'll create the curve top to bottom. This curve is small and gentle but will also provide means of easily lifting the lid, while being visually asthetic (hopefully). The arc is just over 1".

So where you see it looks like the miter doesn't line up, that's where the curve will start, rounding this portion of the front facing part on the lid downwards. The drawers have this detail too, but not the portion below the lid and above the drawers, and the skirt is flat too.

Let me know what you think...

    ICN,

    Bill

Judging from what I've seen of your craftsmanship so far, I knew it was unlikely to be an error. Thanks for the explanation.

    Superb thread, Bill.

Where did you get the TS blade that does flat-bottomed kerfs? I've been looking for one for a while.

Here are some more Drawer progress pics…

Pic 1 shows just how close I keep the drawer side to the inside of the right side of the box. 1/64th of an inch.

Pic 2 front, sides and back assembled

Pic 3 time to mark the place to cut the dado for the drawer bottoms. Tip…do this with the drawer assembled so that the orientation is correct. Do it differently and sometimes you cut in the wrong place. Been there.

Here I'm marking the lid hinge location from the bottom cuts.

Pic 2 shows where I've drilled and pre-tapped the holes with stainless steel screws waxed running in 1/4 deep at a time and backing out, letting the screw cool then doing it again until I reach the correct depth.

Note...before this screw insertion, I used a gimlee to thread the hole.

    Drawer Pulls

I've sketched what I want, made a template and glued it to the Purple Heart. I cut it out on the band saw then sanded to the line.

    Dividers have been made

Pic 2.......see how I added felt to the tips so that they fit snugli in the box. I cut the divider to the exact dimension of the interior minus 1/8 of an inch, then the felt takes up that space. It also prevents them from marring the box sides.
