Small Huon and Tasmania Blackwood Box
This box is quite small, measures approx 150 x 100 x 80 high.
The lid is from Houn Pine and the box is Tasmanian Blackwood.
The hinge is 3mm brass. And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

A lovely elegant little box; nice choice of wood, well done. What is the finish?
Regards,
BarrieThis bit should be completely ignored, although I know that despite this warning, you will read it through to the very end.

Very nice
Would you mind explaining how you installed the hinges?

Thanks for the comments.
These are really a simple box to make. The concave curve on the lid was made on the table saw with the fence set at an angle and the blade slowly raised after each cut. The outer curve was then scribed parallel to the inside curve and firstly cut on the bandsaw. It was then finally dressed to size on the disc sander before finally sanding by hand.
The base and lid were taped together and then the centres for the hinge pins marked out. The lid at the rear was shimmed with about .25 mm tape to get the correct gap. These were then drilled from either side with a 3mm drill going through the sides into the lid. With some longer hinge pins temporarily installed the lid was then fitted to allow the lid to lift to the correct position.
The finish is tung oil , many coats applied up to 1200 grit and then wax finished and buffed. And my head I'd be a scratchin'

Love the simplicity of your design and the effectiveness of the contrasting Tassie timbers. Beautifully finished and constructed with an informative presentation...congratulations

Beautiful design and execution.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.
