    Default Japanese traditional box making

    下町に息づく伝統の技 江戸指物1/6

I have just been watching a series of youtube videos about a guy who shows you how to make a hand made small cabinet with drawers Japanese style, all done with the simplest of hand tools - a scribe with a knife blade, a small chisel, small hammer, small hand saw, a plane, and an awl. The cabinet is made with fully blind dove tail joins, with drawers held together with glue and bamboo nails, and it is all made with a couple of very simple jigs while sitting on the floor.

The craftsmanship is so good that when he pushes a drawer in all the others slide open because they they fit so smug and air cannot escape.

    The end product is amazing.

There are 6 videos to see the whole process and well worth viewing the lot.

Just copy and past the above web address into the youtube finder, and to find each video in the series just change the number from 1/6 to 2/6 through to 6/6.

    Hope you like.

I am so jealous that he can do that sort of work while practicing yoga at the same time

Thanks for the link. It's great to see a craftsman at work...and no hearing protection is needed

Thanks for the links, loved the video. Like the idea of a tooth brush for hide glue!

    Cheers
