First jewellery box
This is my first attempt at jewellery box. Recently retired and no real woodwork since year 10 at school.
Sides are blackout flooring offcuts and top and bottom of unknown eucalyptus species. I sourced this log from my brother inlaw and milled it with chainsaw and then bandsaw. Found some nice grain and spalting in the sap wood. Made a nice picture of sun over the horizon and beach. (you have to use your imagination)
Mitre splines also spalted but did not contrast enough with the blackbutt.
I learnt a lot from the process and keen to continue learning.

Good effort for your first go at woodworking since Year 10. I wish I would have listened more to my woodwork teacher back in those days.

Ray, I quite like it. Not every box has to be out of this world, the wood you have used is lovely. Keep making them.

Great job for someone who doesn't have a lot of woodwork experience, and nice job on the mitres which are always the hardest part to get a tight join. The spaltered "whatever" wood really sets it off.

Self-milled logs are the best.
I do indeed see the beach!

I didn't think about it much until approaching retirement, then made some drawers for the back of the four wheel drive and really enjoyed it . So now retirement is here and I realise there is a lot to learn and skills to develop.
