    Default Jewellery box

Finished all the projects for SWMBO and this is the first of three jewellery box commissions. This one has a removable tray. No lock was required on this one. Locks on these boxes really is a bit of a joke, but I guess it keeps the kids out of them. Box body and lid frame is black wattle. The lid insert is ash burl veneer with a shop made veneer banding inlay. Internals are silver ash. Size, 250mm x 175mm and 80mm o'all deep. Didn't turn out too bad, first one for a while. Next one's should get better.

excellent work, have done really well. Prefer a high gloss poly-eurothene finish myself, but everyone to his own liking i guess.

    Well done,

Very, very nice! I love the detail, it really sets off the figuring of the timbers!

But please promise me you won't put PolyU anywhere near it? It looks so tactile that it'd be a crying shame to make it feel like a lump of injection moulded plastic. [shudder]

Nice work. Nice blend of timbers, can you describe the size and method of making?

Watch out that SWMBO does'nt put one of these boxes on the Must Do list.

Skew, I use clear grain fillers because of the different colours of the timbers used. Then sprayed lacquer cut back with fine wet, wet and dry paper and buffed back with EEE or oils or waxes as required. Sometimes the sprayed lacquer is finished off with a rubber, in the same manner of french polishing. Depends on the complexity of the surfaces. I promise no poly eurathanes, I don't like them either.

Nice box! I like the way the legs are attached to the corners. It has an added value of adding strength to the miters. In my experience I've done similar things that looked similar with an appealing look. Mostly though I use miter keys or splines. Great Box! Look forward to seeing more.
