Tony,
Any chance of a peek at the joinery. This is what would dictate the price for me (glued drawers vs joints).

Small pic but it looks nice from what I can see. Can't help you with the price.

Hi Tony,
As they say - there is always a buyer if the price is right
Try having a look in some jewellery shops to see what they are asking for the cheap imported stuff. Then compare quality of construction and finish and the fact that yours is custom made etc. Don't sell yourself cheap if you've done good work. Remember they are often bought for gifts for special occassions, so there is also the sentimentality effect as well.

what is the answer?
It was not my intention to mislead, rather I set out to sample opinions.
My apology if I have mislead anyone.

Tony, I can appreciate where you are coming from. Until about two years ago I was making one off, top shelf, commissioned furniture from locally bought timber. No particle board or stained pine was used, with dovetail and mortice and tenon joints etc. Then the Indonesian made stuff started to turn up. The clients in this area went for price at the cost of lesser quality, That is their choice. Fortunately I was at the end of my career and it didn't matter all that much. With regard to that jewellery box, I would expect to get up here any way, about $600.00. However made in China, why bother to even sharpen a chisel????

Yep hard to compete with sweat shop imports... but put a quality product along side the import and non-woodies actually see where their money went.

I agree with all of you. I've actually purchased a few pcs. of this stuff from China, cut it, looked at it and its (pardon my french) "substandard " as compared to hand crafted boxes I've seen all of you post. I've purchased a jewlery box, pen display case, etc from China. Very cheap.
Now........My market are the people who can afford and appreciate quality craftsmanship and materials. I've seen similar J-boxes like this one in local Wally Worlds, for 39.00. In comparison, my Christmas Jewelry Box just complete (WIP) is $725.00
