Alternative ring rack construction
I was getting into a bit of a bind with this ring rack , so my missus piped up and took over.
She got a large sheet of 10mm thick HD Foam from Clark Rubber for $6, and cut some 20mm strips using the guillotine, and then chopped one into three 90mm lengths.
She then got a sheet of adhesive backed red felt from Spotlight for $3, and cut that into 3 lots of 90 x 60mm and she wrapped them around each 90mm long foam strip, as seen below
She then cut a 90 x 69 cardboard base, and fitted some red adhesive backed felt, then glued the bottom of each of the three strips to this base, using glue only on the bottom of the strips, not the base where the rings will rest. Could use some advice on how to better glue felt to felt, please
Over all height of the ring rack ended up at 20mm
Looks good, esp when squeezed into a 89 x 68mm tray compartment - cannot see any foam at all, and the rings will be firmly held in position.
Problem with cutting foam on the guillotine is that it compresses, as DD says above, and it is not a clean, square cut. Best to use the sharp knife with several gentle cuts as he suggests
Certainly much cheaper than the Rocker ring rack for $29 plus shipping from the US, albeit it is a 2 ft long rack, with three partitions, that you cut to length. But you would also have to buy a sheet of matching adhesive backed felt too

Hi. looking good.
I use a craft fabric glue/adhesive for attaching felt runners to the inside bottom of the box cavities. Once dry it's quite permanent but can be lifted off with a bit of persuasion . Just a little sticky to work with.
You don't need to apply very much. Most brands are quick drying, used for fabrics, leather, wood -etc. And acid free. Acids can ruin / tarnish the ring metals. Not expensive either. A small squeeze bottle/tube goes a long way. Don't cut the tip to low.
Hope this helps,
Glenn
