    Default Kingwood piggy bank

Another antique post office door bank. This one is kingwood. No finish on this box - just polished with the Beall buffing system and wax.

I'm really taken with this one Cisco! The kingwood looks very spec! and I like the rounded egdes contrasting with the stripes of the timber.

What is kingwood like to work with?

    Cheers

Thanks, Wendy. Kingwood is extremely dense. One of the heaviest timbers I've ever worked with. Takes a very high polish easily. It is a member of the rosewood family so anyone with allergies to this type of timber (like me) would do well to wear a dust mask. This stuff will blunt tools too. I've heard that it is so dense it won't float, but I've never tested this theory.

hmm, that could be a fun competition, pick the timber by how fast it sinks or by how quickly it blunts the tools

Are these heirloom money boxes for anyone in particular? Lucky them!
