Best way to line a box interior?
Hello, can anyone please advise what is the best way to line a) the bottom of a box and b) all the interior sides of a box?
I would like to use some green , black or red felt material, and would welcome some ideas and suggestionsregards,
Dengy

Hi Dengy,
I use 3mm mdf or 3mm ply and cut it just undersize so that when the fabric is glued onto it, it is a nice friction fit in the box. Same for the sides. Sides glued in place upon final fitting if required. I've used boiled flour glue and also hide glue allowed to gel and then the fabric ironed on. Recently I tried using a paste PVA from Spotlight called Ultraglue and found it excellent for glueing fabric to wood.

Hi Dengue,
I use self adhesive baize that I get from CWS near Geelong. I use it for the bases and for trays, but I don't use anything on the sides of the boxes, I think if you select the right timber combinations, you shouldn't need felt on the sides.
Regards,
Rob

I've used the self adhesive felt the LGS posted and it works great in my opinion. I've also used felt from a craft store and used a spray adhesive but it didn't really stick that well and needed multiple applications of the adhesive to really stick.
I'm sure if you researched which adhesive to use you could get good results with the felt from craft stores, the advantage of this is you have a wide variety of colours to use. The advantage of the adhesive backed felt is that it's very easy to apply, however only comes in certain colours.
Good luck,
Andy

I take the cheap but classy option! Cereal box cardboard cut to 1 or 2mm smaller than the inside of the box, a quick spray with contact adhesive (from the $2 shop) and glue some velvet or similar cloth to it. Spray the underside, fold the edges of the cloth over and press it into the box - job done!
