    Default List of Hinge Suppliers?

I'm looking to build a list of hinge, latch and lock suppliers for boxes. Seems I'm growing a bit too fast and don't want to get caught out.

I asked this once before, but I can't find the thread!

It would be very nice to have a nice comprehensive catalogue or online resource to consult.

Anyone have such a list they'd be prepared to share? World wide, not just locals.....

Its a bit unreal that a fantastic site like this doesn't have a full index of where things may be bought and from whom.... even a big list of Aussie suppliers, at least.

Be wary of sellers on Aliexpress . I recently had an experience that resulted in me losing nearly $50 due to a dishonest seller there. Ordered a large variation of stuff from Liyou Tools (should be Liar Tools), was advised that they had been sent in 3 separate shipments with tracking numbers provided. Tracking numbers turned out to be false, no results for any of the 3. Took 6 weeks to get my money back, but because of exchange losses ended up nearly $50 short of what I paid. Multiple contacts and complaints to Aliexpress resulted in no action; totally useless; didn't keep me informed on progress of my complaint, had to contact them repeatedly (not easy) to be eventually told that I had no proof that the seller had done anything wrong. What a load of bull nuggets!

I have resigned from Alibaba and Aliexpress, nothing but platitudes about wanting to weed out dishonest sellers but when they get the chance to do something about it they take no action. No wonder all their buyer forums have been discontinued.

I'll be dumping on them at every opportunity.

Evan, well I guess you don't want to buy mine then!

You can put 'Goods and Chattels' Ferny Grove Qld on that list AND
    'Small Box Hardware' in Canada.

    Cheers,

Be fair Acco I've been in that area all of 2 times in 3 years...I was stupid and used the "search" bar.... It's about a good a search as a drunk looking for his lost keys under only the street lights... Man, it's almost useless. How hard is a decent search? It's trivial!

    I promise I did look

Aldav, I still love you... I said "list". I know you want to be top of that list, but it DOES need to be more than one to qualify as a list

As for AliExpress, you have to give them time. With 1.3 billion Chinese using it, the COMPLAINTS DEPARTMENT staff numbers are probably the population of Sydney. I've found it pretty good, to be honest. I like to open a dialogue with the chat first, they always remember "their Aussie customer"

    Default a great supplier

    TIP

I've been in contact with McCallum Hinges in Sydney. Their prices are excellent the the products for the very small hinges is pretty decent. They were happy to send samples.

    contact is Craig Jackson.

Just ordered 250 of 2519's and 3822's in brass. They are extruded, but a bit of sandpaper and a blat on the buffer they come up quite nicely.

Attached is a sample of the original - then the intermediate (1 minutes work) then the final after going very quickly through the 400, 600, 1200 grits then polish using Josco Brown polishing stick on a loose buff.... it was a quick and dirty test to see how they would come out..... not too shabby!

The pins come out with a push, so I'll tidy up the insides of the knuckle with a fine file.

    Thanks for the tips everyone.

I have spend some time looking for the good quality hinges and locks for jewellery boxes.
Here there are some photos and installation instructions for the hinges and locks I use for my boxes now.

    Evanism,

These are some of the places I've found or used:

    High End Hinges (Very)

    Andrew Crawford in England http://smartboxmaker.com/

    Ian Hawthorne in Ireland http://www.jewelleryboxhardware.com/

The two sources above produce hinges that are arguably as good or better than Brusso, and I'm a big fan of Brusso.

    Brusso in USA Brusso Hardware

At toolsforworkingwood.com in the US if you buy 4 or more Brusso items you get a 10% discount.

Anton Gerner in Melbourne Australia Gerner Hinges Not sure if Anton Gerner supplies rail hinges - his site shows just butt and quadrant.

    Others

Whitechapel Ltd in the UK Box Hinges :: Whitechapel Ltd.

    Rockler.com in the US http://www.rockler.com/search/go?w=B...uuid=&sli_sid=

    Craft inc http://craft-inc.myshopify.com/colle.../hinges?page=1

Beall Tool Co in US (round hinges) http://www.bealltool.com/products/other/npround.php
