Thread: Looking for someone in Melbourne , interested in making some open boxes in Hardwood

The mind boggles on this design. Are you going to put us out of our misery? 30mm thick? What sort of corner joints are you looking for? And how will the aluminium sheets be fixed to the box? And what timber is it?

hehehe.
not at all . corner join i used to use Miter join but can be other join . the aluminium top will be sit on the rebates which is around 3~4 mm thick and will be screws downs all around with counter sunk screws .
timber i jused mostly Jarrah and Tassie blackwood

by 30mm thick, do you mean 350 x 300 x 30 mm high?

or are the box sides to be 30mm thick?

why 3mm Al plate top and bottom?

corner preference -- mitres -- grain matched mitres -- finger joints -- dovetails -- rebated -- Al angle -- do you have a preference?

depending on the final use, the boxes may not need glueing -- the AL plate top and bottoms might hold the sides in place

i'm looking for complete box made as I don't have time to do the job otherwise i would do them my self .
the box roughtly 300x350x100 ( W/D/H ) wall thickness is 30mm , 3mm Al plates is for components mount on the top and bottom Al is for cover .
Corners preference is either miters no grain match required , if good proffesional finger joints can be has then it is my prefer . either one need rebate 3 ~4 mm dept for the Ali plates .
finishing is just sanding and oil finish .

just to confirm the design, the rebate for the Al plate is to be slightly deeper (perhaps 1mm) than the plate is thick?
the rebate would be about 20mm wide -- leaving about 10mm of timber as a frame

having the Al plate to hand (for the tops and bottoms) would help to keep the mitred boxes square as they are glued up

no , the rebate i want flush with the Aumilium thickness and the rebate is 15mm wide so leaveing 15mm for the frame.
i do have the AL plate for reference when making the box.
still looking for someone in Western suburb of Melbourne to do the job .

I let this go at the start because you were looking for a retired bloke to do it for you (for free or on beer slab rates?). not to sound too much like a money hungry grub, but if your willing to pay for the job, i can probably do it depending on deadlines and quantities.

you are after something like the image I quickly drew up? rebate top AND bottom? i drew the rebate to have square corners. is the corners of the rebate to be square? or does your aluminium plate have rounded corners which will need to be matched (this is more harder but not impossible). depending on final use, that miter joint is pretty wide, if i size the grain first before gluing it should be pretty strong without the need for reinforcing such as dowels, biscuits or splines, especially since a ali plate will be holding it all together also.

No i didn't means to have this made for free or a few slabs .
yes that is exactly what i looking to made. but there is the front plate that I just added in my design .
