I know it's just MDF (multi hinged padded box)
Number 2 son paints Warhammer figures, and he needed a box to store his Chaos Defiler. The challenge here was to make a padded box that would hold the figure in place and allow it to be put in and taken out without damaging the delicate pointy bits. Hence three sides open out, leaving only one three-sided corner.
MDF, open cell foam and exterior grade polyurethane varnish. Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

Great Dad!
That is an approach I had not seen before, and one I will file away for future use.
Thanks for sharing.“When we build, let us think that we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor for present use alone. Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for; and let us think...that a time is to come when those (heirlooms) will be held sacred because our hands have touched them, and that men will say, as they look upon the labor and wrought substance of them, ‘See! This our father did for us.’ “ --John Ruskin. Audels Carpenters and Builders Guide, 1923 Theo Audel & CO. New York.

Thats neat. Bit of decoration on the box would have been good but very practical and you have achieved your purpose. Good work.
Reality is no background music.

Excellent solution, Zen. Just 2 technical questions, really:
What's a bloody Warhammer?
And what is a Chaos Defiler when it's at home?
Cheers,
Bob

Nice design and nice execution.
Also, good support of your son's hobby. It completely avoids the "when I was your age, we didn't ..." lecture.

I didn't know either, but Google does!
Nice box Zen, shows lateral thinking and as griffithpark said, it is nice to support your son's hobby. Time spent doing that certainly pays of for both of you, particularly when they grow up, that bond always remains.

Great solution Drew.
Do those clasps clip on tightly? I'd be worried about them letting go though! The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.

If your son doesn't nominate you for Father of the Year......there is no justice!
Well Done

My boy knows what a warhammer is and he said "cool bananas" when he saw the box.
Now I'm supposed to make him a box for every toy he owns.
Nice one

I could sure use one of those around here at Chaos Central."Look out! Mum's in the shed and she's got a hammer!"
