Default Melbourne suppliers of timber for box making

    Hi everyone

I'm going to Melbourne shortly and wish to purchase timber suitable for box making. I'm after timber which will give me a real attractive finish as a lot of work goes into making these boxes. I put the following in the timber forum but have not received any responses. Therefore I'm trying you guys - the box making gurus!

    "Hi everyone

In our Woodcrafters group we have been using a Gifkin's Dovetail Jig to make boxes.

I have puchased Carba-Tec box making kits which have all the Queensland hardwood timber pre cut. The timber is supplied by Loggerheads in Queensland and comes up quite beautifully once these boxes are completed.

My only problem with purchasing these box kits from Carba-Tec is that the kits are 'picked over' rather quickly and you never end up with say the beautiful lids that are advertised in their brochures.

I was wonder what retailers in Melbourne have a huge choice of timber (particularly kiln dried hardwoods) suitable for box making.

    Any ideas? "

    Cheers

    Rod

I asked a similar question as i'm currently in Melbourne at the moment. One of the guys mentioned these:

    There's Matthews Timber in Vermont,
    www.matthewstimber.com.au

Australian furniture timbers in Plummer st port melbourne( there s a bunch of recycled timber places in Plummer st as well).

Bowerbird Saved Timbers in Yarra juction. Bowerbird - Home

I actually went to Matthews timbers the other day, they had a good variety of nice woods.
Ideally i'd like to get my timber from lumber bunker as they deliver from up the coast and they have some thin boards suitable for box making, but i cannot get in contact with them.
So i think i'll just have to get it from somewhere else, tomorrow i'm going to bowerbird timbers to see what they have.

    Might be on hols.

    Did you send an email?

I've bought box packs from him and they were good value. Still need lids and bottoms of course.
