Mk.2 jewellery box
Got moving on Mk2 box, modification to the height of top compartment, an extra strip.
I'm finding it quite difficult these days working to my box designs without working plans and an instruction sheet, its amazing what gets bypassed.
Anyway here are some pictures of the progress todate.

And the upper box sections glued with mitres already cut, but must remember to put in all the rebates before gluing .

I only have one set of veneers left so will have to go shopping, although I am giving ebay/paypal a miss for the time being, my account seems corrupted.
Could not even get an order working for some earth magnets to my satisfaction earlier this week.woody U.K.

Another disaster story to come, seems to be a lot of them these days.
Getting all the box parts glued up and then putting them through the thicknesser to clean up is where this disaster occurred, two chunks were torn out of the sapele type timber by the machine and happened to the lower section of the box.
They could not be recovered so I again changed tack and decided to turn the project into a trinket box to go with the first box under construction at the other thread. The timbers match so that young lady should do well, she will now have an additional jewellery box.
I cut dados to the four pieces using the table saw making two border cuts and then cleaning out the centre waste with a small chisel. These parts are to accommodate the veneered lid of the same appearance as first box.

Progress so far, carcass constructed with veneer lid, lid to be sawn off, (no hinges this time )

Lid removed from carcass and came off sweet as a nut, used a handsaw and cut through the prepared dado when preparing boards and cleaned off with a block plane.

I have marked the top with a pair of crosses, these display the veneer join line at centre of lid, the join is faintly visible because pva glue was used and goes dark and timber is very light. It is going to be a drop on lid so a knob/lifter could be attached along this line.
Anyone here who does any carving and would like to make a piece for this area would be a nice addition.
Base board about 3mm ply fitted so a nice spacious small box should result.

Box now ready for the lady to decide the finish and compartments. (four corners added to base in African black wood).

Lift off lid created by inserting a liner internally and the box lid comes off the carcass smoothly.

The young lady is lucky, she is getting the pair because the larger box design in my opinion has much wasted interior space so a trinket box for those small items I thought made the project more practical.
Displayed with other items made in the past.
