    Default Music Box

    Hi all,
Just completed this music box for a friend's 50th tonight, NO STRESS!

The timber is Euro Walnut? purchased at the Brisbane show a couple of weeks ago.

Insert is Queen Ebony from Sitco in Brisbane (he was also at the show) The lid is Qld Walnut veneer from Rivergum (beautiful). Pig skin base. I had to make a box for the mechanism (normally white plastic)

    Finished with Feast Watson wax.

    regards
    Billy

Looks Good, Are the Mitered corners just glued together, or is there additional help. I am about to start some more boxes and was wondering if i should just glue them up.

    Hi Hungry,
No they are just glued. If glued correctly they become one piece of wood, there should be no need for any extra brace.

Beautiful box Billy. Does the little container for the music mechanism enhance the sound, does it have any holes in it to let the sound out? Lovely contrast of woods, neat joints, and absolutely perfect hinge fitting.

    Thanks Fencepost,
The music box is totally sealed and glued to the side. The sound seems to be enhansed! With the lid closed it is almost loud. Thanks for your feedback.
    regards

Relly like the little divot to help open the box.
Will probably use it on a future box.
I like the contrast in your woods too.
I'm both dyslexic and paranoid. I keep thinking I'm following someone.

Hi Billyboydes. Very elegant box . The birthday person should have been impressed . Which brand of movement did you use and is it available with a "stop" to allow the closing of the lid to control the movement.
I've just become an optimist . Iv'e made a 25 year plan -oopps I've had a few birthdays - better make that a 20 year plan

    Hi Peter,
I am yet to hear from the lady. The movement is an 18 note Sankyo and no it does not come with a stop. Thanks for the feedback.

Nicely done, Billy. Your selection of timbers and craftsmanship is tasteful. The way you morticed in the hinges is very professional looking.

Nice work. I particularly like the middle box with the timber hinges and clasp. Looks terrific.
    Reality is no background music.
