Nesting Boxes
I made these for my cousins three girls. Idea behind them is that just as each box takes care of the smaller ones, so should the girls. I was pleasantly surprised how nice they came out with one exception. I used a standard hinge instead of the nicer ones that price out at $25 a pair. Even though I installed the hinges and made sure all was flush before finishing, when I did the final install, the lids didn't fit like they should of. Lesson learned there. I sure wish there was a middle of the road hinge out there. One other thing about these boxes; I will always carry a remembrance of them. First table saw kickback left a three inch scar on my belly that looks surprisingly like the end of a box jointed board. Description:These nesting boxes are made from Cherry with Sweet Red Gum top panels.. The dimensions are approx. 6"x3"x1 3/4", 7"x4"x2 3/4", and 8"x5"x3 3/4" tall. They are finished with a coat of drying oil, top coated with four coats of wipe on poly and buffed with a coat of Canuba wax. Hinges are a standard type attached to the back and the box opens to 180*. The liner is a synthetic suede and will not tarnish silver.

They look terrific, got any pics of the inside and hinge set up?
Scar on the belly is tough but at least you can still count to 10 on your fingers.
Cheers

Some nice boxes there, well done.
Hinges are the bane of my world. I never seem to be able to get them right. Breaks my heart when i put hours of careful work into a project & at the last step things go pair shaped.

Man, are you all tough. Added picture of the inside but have no rear picture showing hinges. They are just the cheap thin ones. I usually use Brusso which are sweet to work with but pricey.

I was just going to ask "where are the holes for the birds to get in?".
Then the penny dropped
Must go and lie down.

Watson
If there were holes, the birds would get out. You just toss the birds in, close the lid and let birds do what birds do.

That timber is so beautiful. The boxes are not bad either. Good work
Reality is no background music.
