    Default My Paint Box Version

I enjoyed the paint box recently posted. So inspired, I grabbed the one I recently made. I'm still working on a handle made from the two woods I used, curly maple and paduk, with leather strapping fising it to the case.

Now all I need to do is spring for all the paints and load'er up )

At least I made the hinges!! neener neener!

    Looks great mate no worries

One question though... Ive always got questions! ... anyways that holdup stand thingy on the side? seems from the first pic that the hold up thingy is attached INSIDE the box yet in the second pic it appears on the OUTSIDE of the box? hows that work?

And that timber looks brilliant! whats the main timber? Paduk or Maple? yous blokes do have some weird wood I can tell yer

From the holes(?) visible in the side/top in the first photo, I'd hazard to guess that it's a removable strut?

Yer right about the wood, Dingo, it's glorious stuff isn't it! Either a Quilted Maple or Curly Narrah would be my guess for the body, the trim doesn't look "bright" enough to me for Padauk. Maybe Bubinga? Not that I really have a clue.

$$$ was actually my first thought...
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Yep, the "thingy" is a removable lid stay made from paduk. (It's actually a little lighter than the picture shows). Bored into the side of the lid stay are 1/2 inch holes (yeh I know us americans are still behind the measurement curve) where I inset two rare earth ring magnets taht clip onto washers in the side of the box.

The main wood is curly maple which set me back $270 US for three boards purchased online. I used about one third of it for this project.

    Thanks for the kind remarks.

It's the same wood I used in an earlier post showing my "State Fair Jewelry box". Curly maple for this project and paduk trim. It really turned out nice. The next one I make will be from claro walnut.

    Thanks..
