Sometimes "op" shops have good old leather briefcases or satchels.

I've got this leather briefcase, but not the box kind, satchel I think is the word anyway it's made thick cow hide I think, tough as but bendable, it holds all instruction manuals, even those I don't have machines for anymore If you were closer I'd give it to you, I think it's what you need?

Carl, have a look at one of those big pilots' briefcases. They open with overlapping flaps at the top and have dividers inside.

They hold heaps of papers etc and I think will do what you want.

    Edit:

This is the sort of thing I'm talking about, but you can get them without the trolley as well

that seams a bit good to get bashed around in the ute and coverd in dirt and sawdust. i have a crappy plastic file case it may do for now.

but its not a long trem solution.

It's really daggy looking but well made, someone probably thought it looked pretty spiffy once, it's gathering dust down the shed, hang on I'll go take a pic of it

...it's blown a gale out there. A bit on the dusty side and it looks worse than it really is, it would come up well with a bit of TLC.

    opps, forgot the pic

Carl, it's another box, with a couple of handles, good hinges, a strap to stop the top folding all the way back and reinforced corners. Not the hardest thing to make, but definitely a good idea for the hard, but useful life you would give it.

I built a small Arts and Crafts case for myself a few years ago. Maybe it may help you with a few ideas.

    cheers

Carl, a quick thought. You need a box to protect your papers and files. Why not a box to protect a brief case so that, when necessary, you can lift the brief case out and walk away with it without having to lug a box around? Such a box could be rough and strong with butt joints if it had to be made quickly.
