Very nice Dallas, you certainly have been busy lately. My pick of those is the 4th from the left (first pic). Great contrasting colours. Great looking pens also. You must be getting ready for markets when they can open.

Very nice! Simple functional boxes. Sufficient adornment with the splines and handle. A good selection of complimentary woods to provide visual appeal. All topped off by great craftsmanship.

A damn fine job there Dallas, they really add value and appeal to your pens. Well done.

Great to see you still around Richard. These will be added to other items I make to display and maybe sell at our club exhibition later in the year (if we're allowed)

The box you mentioned has a very nice piece of Blackwood for the lid. It's amazing what you can find under a rough exterior. I don't do any markets, that would take the fun out of it. I like to just plod away in my shed with no pressure to keep up supply.

Yep, still around, just been absent from posting as still have a big lack of enthusiasm/motivation, between having no space, no access to my association workshop, the cold, the kids, especially whilst playing Teacher and principal. having said that the cane was almost re-introduced in our house as my 18yr old son (he's actually 12 but thinks like and talks to me like an 18yr old, actually its just his vocabulary is that of an 18yr old, if you get my drift).

I actually have a few things on the go, but very slow in getting them done
1) a JB Gents dressed in curly maple on the lathe waiting for a CA finish
2) a Medal box for an old neighbour, this is a redgum carcass, with book matched Southern silky oak lid, with Huon Pine wooden hinges. The hinges are the part im nervous about.
3) An American oak/rock maple jewellery box for my daughter and now have added to make a matching hand mirror.
4) a dozen cutting/chopping boards
5) an identical pair of had mirrors for sisters who are friends of my daughter, long story, I made a jewllery box for their mum, and these will be made out of timber from the beds they used to sleep in at Nan's house, so sort of sentimental
6) cutting the rebate for a router table insert
so yes, enough to keep me busy (should I feel like it), oh and the plane box insert for Joe, (Dengue), oops

Those are some pretty decent looking boxes Dallas. I quite like the fact that it doesn't contain any hardware which makes it perfect to display the beauty of your pens.

Don't envy you doing the home schooling and I'm glad I didn't have to deal with that.
Sorry to hear you still haven't got your motivation back yet as you have got a long list of jobs to complete and it's a shame to see all your talent going to waste. Hopefully something will inspire you soon.

actually, I was having a chin wag with the wife this morning before she dragged me out to get some food supplies and she said that she was glad i'd started back on the hand mirrors, I asked why is that? she said because Michelle's mum passed away recently. and then it dawned on me, that I was an absolute airhead. I've probably told the story about where the timber came from, but Michelle gave me a 75yr old Northern Silky Oak cot, which I made the starburst box from to say thanks. Now it turns out that her mum had also slept in that cot. She also had some things to get rid of, which was 2 solid timber single beds, also Northern Silky Oak, and both Michelle and her mum had gone from the cot to these beds. Now the girls as mentioned yesterday used to sleep in those beds when they stayed at Nan's house. So having something made from timber that once belonged to Nan and they have a real connection with is so special for them.

So Mojo is back and being put back into gear to get these done for the girls.

Here they are, with a bit of sanding to go before finishing with Kunos oil #244. Mirrors are Acrylic so wont break if dropped, blue film to be removed after oiling.

That is bitter sweet news. Hopefully now you have got started one thing will lead to another and you will feel inspired to move on to your other projects.
It's ironic that you should mention the starburst box as I linked to it in this thread as an example of how the lid could be done and I was wondering how it was holding up.
