Pencil Case?
Hi,
Hope this is the correct place to post my questions.
I have just bought an entire set of 120 coloured pencils and would like to house them in some sort of pencil case. For an extra $70 I could have had the case with them but it was just a cheap tin one and I thought these pencils were far more deserving than that.
I have had a quick google but could not come up with much info or ideas on how to do it etc.
One suggestion I did have was to just have a block of wood with 120 holes drilled in it, but for me that would not be too elegant.
I really have no idea as to how would be the best way of making such a box. Assuming that probably there would be at least two if not three different layers otherwise the box would be just too long. This then begs the question of whether the layers would be just lift out in separate trays or slide out etc?
I'm not a box maker but would be willing to have a go if I can get some help in regard to ideas and layout size etc. I'm open to any suggestion or if I could be pointed in the right direction ..............
Cheers
John

Assuming 120 different shades and colours and, as Jow points out, ultimately worn down pencils, you need a holding device that allows you to select the colours easily. Think of ease of access and ready selection of colours before you settle on a particular kind of box. Three or four of those made by Jow, and shown in this box forum, might work very well.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies people. I have done a bit of a search in this forum and I have found a couple of different pencil boxes but nothing like accommodating 120 of them.
I have also googled for images and have come across some here.
Now go easy on me fellas and tell me I'm just dreamin or something, because to be honest I would not know where one would even begin with something like this, but this is sort of what I was looking for. I could always hand it on down to my daughter or grandchildren.
Cheers

Got an idea about cantilevered rows of timber with holes for the pencils, that stands up when you open the box but am having trouble explaining it out.
For a box making learner, perhapps the first picture style would be a good starting point, later you could upgrade the box if you desire.
A simple butt joint contruction, sliced for the lid , then trays would work quite well.
Box making can be as simple as above or it can be very detailed and complicated.

I suppose now that I would like to attempt box #2 (yeah the hardest one) I should start actually reading up on the subject. Any books, or recommended articles on-line that I should most definitely be reading?
Cheers

First thing, find some wood.
Then post again with the picture of wood.woody U.K.
