    Default Potpourri of species

Visiting the US in April and staying with my wife's cousin in Texas. He has very kindly offered us the use of his twin cab pickup to tour around (the only condition was don't take it to Mexico!). As a token of thanks, I have made him a box showing off some of our lovely timbers. The sides are NSW camphorwood, the lid is NSW rosewood with Huon Pine trim and the base is Jarrah with Tasmanian Blackwood and Gidgee trim. The lid and base are 2mm veneers both sides sandwiching 6mm mdf. The lining is suede pigskin. The finish was achieved by sanding to 320 then wiping on Sanding Sealer thinned with Methylated Spirits, wiping off excess, then sanding to 800 and waxing.

Thought I would share this latest effort.

    Cheers all
    Shep

Beautiful box. The best gifts are always handmade. Its a pity you wont get to see his reaction when he receives the box.
