Presentation box
First time posting so please humour me. I have been hand making/turning fishing floats on a home made lathe, (fashioned with an upturned drill and spindle made from Brass Tap washer, inset to a 5mm bearing case). I want to give some as gifts, and as i can't buy boxes 50mmx40mmx400mm, i thought i'd make some.
Can anyone let me know where i can buy small sheets of 2mm Plywood or MDF (other than Bunnings 3mm) Or anyother suitable wood this thin. I just need small sheets, not a 1200x2400 sheet. Thankyou. Locale Sydney City (or thereabouts)Necessity is the mother of invention....

Hi Richard and welcome to the nut house,
Why don't you go to your local plastic supplier, buy clear plastic tube of the right diameter and length and turn nice wooden caps that match the floats to seal the ends. That should make nice presentation packages.

G'day Richard and welcome to the real world.
Don't know about using thin MDF. Mongrel stuff IMHO.
I've found that going to cabinetry and boat building places can result in a surprisingly good supply o small, useful bits and pieces.

Thankyou all, for the pointers, i will add photos of both home made lathe, exlcluding the idiot using it, oh and a pic of the floats too, currently they are hanging up drying after varnishing.
After discovering that i cannot buy chocolate boxes long enough, the extruded tube with turned wooden ends seemed the next best option. The floats are in Cedar and Cedar ends would look awesome, they'd definitely keep the moths away.
I thought though if i could also get some advice here and be sent in the right direction for Wood supplies, I might be able to make a nice box instead.
As i'm new here, can anyone tell me where i can buy the inset button magnets?Necessity is the mother of invention....
