    Default Quadrant hinges

Generally I use butt hinges however a while back I thought I'd give some quadrant hinges from Anti Gerner a run.
Not easy to fit. I literally broke through the rear of my box trying to make the slot long enough for the retainer. Any one have any suggestions ro recommended video to watch?
I've also asked the manufacturer for any hints too. I've fitted three sets and it isn't getting any easier. Any thoughts aside from a lousy craftsman at work.....Lol.

    Cheers, Kerry

Yes, they are quite challenging. I use a 1/8" spiral upcut bit to cut the mortices for the stay followed up with a drill bit and chisel if necessary.

Is that with a router I'm assuming?

    Thanks Kerry

Yes. The hinge mortise is also cut with the router using a template and guide bushing.

    Hi Kerry,

Not sure if this helps, but Rockler make a series of acetate router templates for their “Jig-it” system:

Don’t know if there is a template that fits the AG hinges but if you’re planning on doing this regularly making a similar jig might be worthwhile?

    Best regards,

    Brian

I fitted some cheaper quadrant hinges to a few boxes a while back and made this jig to get the job done. The ply disks are screwed on off-centre so they can be turned for micro-adjustment from the side of the box - worked a treat. The slots for the stays had to be more in the base than the lid as it was only about 15mm high so a router bit wasn't going to be long enough. Ended up just drilling a line of holes with the drill-press, then cleaned up the sides with the same drill bit by passing it back and forth, dropping a couple of mm at a time. Would be tricky without a drill-press but not impossible
