    Default A recent addition

I was feeling a bit guilty after Homey asked what I had been doing in my woodworking recently. I have been making "things" just not posting here so I thought I should put one of my boxes up.
This one is made from Sydney Bluegum and has a Spalted Poplar insert in the lid. The internal trim is Huon Pine.

Hey Dallas, That's a very nice looking box. Love that lid on it. You have picked up a few nice hints from Col's videos I see. The frame at the bottom to sit your tray on. The tray itself, great stuff.

    That’s a lovely box, Dallas!

I wouldn’t have thought of putting the spalted poplar against the blue gum but it really works well, doesn’t it?

Forest Red Gum and Sydney Blue Gum are two of my favourite woods - I could look at them for hours.

    What finish did you use?

Hello Dallas, Another well crafted box, you come up ith some great combinations of what you have in your stock pile of wood. Catch up with you when I get back to Cats country. John

From what I remember it was Danish Oil on the main body of the box and Shellac on the insert. Because the insert was pretty punky I thought the oil would soak in unevenly so decided to use the Shellac and it appears to have worked.
