Default Repair job on a Keepsake Box for my Granddaughter

Repair job on a Keepsake Box for my granddaughter.

A woodworking mate made this box for me a year ago.

The box is Jarrah with a recycled door panel with an inlay for a lid.

In the latest move, the lid got stress and split down the join.

Glued together with “medium thick” clear Starbond plus an added centre backing brace in Silky Oak which is glued in place.

The box is now slotted to accept the brace along with the closed end support.

The edges have all been routed with a 1/16” roundover bit.

The whole box has been resanded and refinished with a fresh batch of WipeOnPoly.

    Repair completed, very happy daughter

    Cheers crowie

Thank you Peter, But toymaking is my first love.
This was done out of necessity and thankfully I received my Starbond order on time.
    We only have one granddaughter.
    Cheers Peter.

She will treasure that box - and every time she opens it she will think of you.
    Good job

That is a rather nice looking box your daughter has there Crowie.
The timber really pops with a coat of your special blend wipe on poly. Glad the sliding lid could be salvaged, quite a clever method to re-enforce a fairly narrow glue line.
I suppose Handy watched on with interest during the restoration process. Now he and you can get back to some toy making.

Absolutely Alan, You made a beaut box for her, so again thank you.
Your woodworking craftsmanship was and still is very much appreciated sir.
And yes the figure and grain in that piece of Jarrah is gorgeous.
    Cheers Peter

PS - Yes Papa Smurf, Handy and I are looking to our next toymaking project.
Maybe something special for Asher who’s still in surgery now, nearly 8hours.

Fingers crossed for the little bloke, hope everything goes well for him. A worrying time for your whole family.
Give him a cuddle from me when you are allowed to see him (eventually).

    Alan...

PS - I don't know how the text got so screwed up, it took a while to sort it out, looks like you jumped in to reply while I was trying to sort out the mess.

Thank you Dallas, Asher was in surgery over 9hrs but breathing on his own an hour after returning to PICU.

On the boxmaking, maybe or maybe not, work to your strengths and so it's toymaking vehicles for me as my prime woodworking hobby.
    Cheers, Peter
