Resaw error results in 5mm x 7" silky oak board
Hello, I resawed a 25mm x 170mm board of nicely figured silky oak, but the top of the fence bowed under excessive hand pressure pushing the workpice against it. The fence is a 180mm x 16mm melamine board, bolted on to a 120mm x 6mm aluminum angle bar, which is then screwed to the base of the fence. There was no re-reinforcing of the fence with ribs above the 120mm height.
Anyway, the outcome was I was able to get a 12mm piece for box sides, but only 5.5mm for the other side of the resaw, instead of the 8mm I wanted for the insert for the lid
So, for the insert into the lid, should I just glue two 5.5mm boards together and dress them down to 8mm? What are the traps for gluing 5.5mm x 170mm x 1200mm boards together, flat faces together?
Or is there a better use for the 5.5mm boards?
I am open to any ideas and suggestions, pleaseregards,
Dengy

Dengy,
I don't see it being a problem. My only concern would be glue lines, but because it will be a panel for a lid you will never see it.
I laminated some Red Cedar a few years ago for legs for a hall table. I was careful in lining up the grain so it looked as if it was always one piece. Below is probably the best pic to show you how it turned out. No problems so far.

Alex, with huon pine, is there any special glue or pre-glue washing that needs to be done?
Also, what have you found to be a good finish on HP?regards,
