Rosewood Box and two Forest Oak Boxes
Hi all, My last four months has been all over the place, basically hadn't touched any woodwork at all. All started when we did a 7,200kms trip in April, through outback NSW then over into SA, then down through Vic and back home. (staying in units etc, never owned a caravan). Had a few weeks at home in June when I started these 3 boxes, but then we headed back over to Molong to one of our son's. During that trip over there I had a rather nasty fall, apart from a lot of bruising (as I am on warfarin), really jarred my back. Never had back pain like this before. So back home we headed, another 700kms, for some rest and a checkup with my GP and then several bouts of physiotherapy. Was only home a week or so when we had to head back over to Tamworth, a couple of days prior to my wife's mother passing away. As the funeral was at Lithgow, another 1500kms round trip. So things have been all over the place.
I finally got around to finishing these 3 boxes, two of which are made from Forest Oak with Birdseye Blackwood lid inserts. This is the last of that particular timber I have, and I have to say it was a challenge, more of a nightmare using the old Forest Oak for these boxes. Sometimes when I routered an old hole appeared and hence a lot of patching up was needed. It was very splintery and trying to router the quadrant hinges and locks was not easy. I persisted and now quite happy with the end results. But I wont be buying any more of Forest Oak. The other box of course is Rosewood, I had this idea in my brain where I wanted a tray inside with another tray inside of that.
The quadrant hinges and locks of course are from Andrew. Then I used some very nice (and expensive) double velvet which I padded also, looks and feels very nice.

Hi and thanks everyone. I buy the quadrant hinges and locks from Andrew. Do a search on ebay for quadrant hinges and I think his shop is the first one that appears. He has put quite a few threads on here as to the installation process for them. The keyhole plate, I glue that on with superglue. As the circular plate has a ring inside it which is a tad smaller (in diameter) than the hole created by the router. You will get some super glue onto your timber (and also your fingers). Get some nail polish remover ( I think its called acetone free) and keep rubbing that over and the excess super glue will vanish. (this is after the super glue has dried of course). If you dull the timber finish, in my case wax over Danish oil, I just rub some wax back over that part again, and buff it off.
Regards, Paul
