    Default Rounded Miter Edge

    Hi -

I have seen a few box pix latley that have the miterd edges rounded nicely - with the keys. So does anyone know how the miters edges of a box should be rounded? I know how to use my roundover bit in my router but will I need a speacial jig to get the edges lined up to the bit?

    Thanks,
    David

Quickest way I've found to do it is use a bit with a bearing guide then just set the height of the cutter to where you want it so it looks even and run the bearing along the box cheeks. Same if you use a table only a little more time consuming in the set up.

    Good Luck

If I wanted to use the table then, would I just aline the corner with the middle of the bit?

Not knowing which bit you are using.. if it is just a curved bit yes. If it has a straight top on it, as in a rule joint, then pick the centre of the curve and check that the straight bit does not come into contact with your job.

Have a couple of practice runs on some scrap.

    Cheers

    Steve.

If you are going to do a lot of boxes then it might be worth your while to, once you get it right, run a piece through and keep it as a template for furture work. The all set ups should be the same.
