Default Signwriting on Cabinet Doors & Box Libs

Hi Guys, I'm new to Woodworking Forums but I must say it's Kool!
It covers so many aspects of woodworking, and you get all in the one place.
I'm not quite shore if this is the right forum, but it seems pretty close.
I've been building some display cabinets and box's for my handplane collection.
I think the addition of some logo's and signage, really gives them a lift.

It would be really great to see other peoples work along the same lines.
    Thanks.

    Default I agree!

    Hi Repliconics,
Yes the signage looks great. If you have the eye and steady hand required for that sort of work, I am sure we will see some quality creative wood work in the future.
Well done and welcome to the forum.
    regards
    Billy

Nice work. Are you a trained or self-taught sign writer, or is there some secret? Looks great however you've done it.

    Default No Tricks

These no stencil's or lift off lettering here. I'm self-taught, although a lot of the time I wish I had some training.
I just either draw or etich onto the panels, and paint them. I suppose I do have a pretty steady hand.
    I really injoy doing scollwork!

    Glad you like it, Cheers.

That is great work! Your very talented.

I'm curious how you prep the surface and what paint you use and if you put a finish coat over the top?

Fantastic looking artwork - looks very authentic
Wish my hand was steady enough to do the same - would be a great way to distract the critics from my dodgie joinery

Hi Ian, No mate I just give the surface a good sanding and make do.
I think it gives the finish a more natural look. Once I've finished the
painting I just give it a clear satin coat.

I use good old Humbrol model paint, it gives a great antique gold finish.
Heres some more of my scroll work, its on one of my Billycarts.
Which has a really nice box on the back of it, hopefully that saves me.

A bit of scroll work can make anything look a million dollars.

love ya' work and particularly so when I've tried very unsuccessfully, and recently, to do it myself!

a couple of thoughts and questions....
    • could you please post a full pic of the billy cart
    • should we have a billy cart section of the forum (although I fear that this billycart might stop anyone else from posting!)
    • I love the use of traditional colours, to me, scroll work with 'modern' colours just doesn't look right
    • would you do signwriting for others? (I've been stalling doing more model train cabinets because the customer wants an art deco train pic on the front )
    • and ... welcome to the forum!

Thanks Fletty, I'm with you. I think the classic colour combinations are unbeatable!
And a Billycart Forum "How Kool" is there anything more Australian?.
Alot of my work is based around the good old Billycart. We all had a couple of pieces of wood,
four wheels and some rope. All held together with little more than Hope!
Thay didn't look much, but when your a kid and a small hill looks like the side of a mountian.
It's "Formula One", or thats how I remember it.
I'd really love to see a Billycart Forum, not many things are left you can still call wholesome!
In reguards to outside work. I'm one of those people who find it really hard to let my work go.
It's not because I think it's the greatest, it's because I try to always do my best.
And in the end I find that the work is worth more to me than the money.
But I'm shore with a little help you can do the job, and if I can help in anyway I'm more than happy to.
    Cheers mate.
