    Default silky oak layon WIP

    Hi all,
In amongst some rather ordinary neglected split and bug eaten silky oak logs of FIL's was a rather ordinary looking smallish lump of silky oak, sort of stuff that gets thrown on the fire, but, I decided to see if I could cut some veneers from it on the bandsaw and it revealed some interesting patterns which I am (forget the term) (quartered mirror image) making up as a layon ready to glue to substrate.
    Some pics....

Very interesting PJT, what a great idea. I think I too often throw stuff onto the fire that, with a bit of imagination, could turn into something very attractive like your panel of bookmatching squared.

A little bit clearer pattern in this one

Here's a different one with some finish on just too see how they come up, a few negative's with this one...a bit of grey in the centre that I should have cut off and the lower left quadrant piece has moved too far in the pattern all good practice tho
