    Default Silky Oak Multi Box

A few years ago I was given large rough sawn piece of Silky Oak that just sat in my shed. I finally decided to use it for some boxmaking and after cutting it into suitable boards decided to make this Multi box. The inlays were done using a Laser and the dark inlay is from some very old Australian Red Cedar that was rescued from an old toolbox. The individual boxes are lined with a red pigskin suede. The box has been finished with three coats of Osmo oil, fine sanding between coats. The Osmo oil dries with a silky wax finish and is ideal for items that are going to be frequently handled.
The box measures 250 mm square X 90 mm high.

Hi Ruddy, that is very clever indeed, well done. Did you do the engraving with a ortur lazer engraver?

    Hi Paul,
The Inlays were cut on an Aeon CO2 Laser and kerf offsets were used to get the exact fit.
The lids are laminated silky oak with the laser cut layer being approx 6 mm thick. These layers are glued together and then sanded to the correct final thickness. I hope this helps.
Next time I will take some wip photographs

Very clever, that would need to be drawn out to identify the junctions and how they work.
